Dear Granny

Dear Granny,
I know you are looking down on me from heaven right now, but I miss you so much. Life is so precious and it just goes by so fast. I hope that you always knew how much I loved you and how special you were to me. Over the past few days I have been trying to recall every memory I can of you because I never want to forget! Until I see you again someday, in heaven, I will cling to all the memories of you that I hold so dear to me in my heart.

Some of my very first memories of my life are with you, Granny. I remember that I could do no wrong when I was at Granny’s house, and I could eat as much ice cream as I wanted. I think I gained at least 5 pounds each summer. I remember the house always smelled like fresh baked bread, and you didn’t care if I ate the entire loaf. I remember shopping trips to Wal-Mart to buy junk, watching I love Lucy reruns and laughing until we cried. I remember family reunions in Oklahoma and in Mason. That was the highlight of my summers for so many years. I remember going to school with you and helping the kids read. You had such compassion for those children that you taught, and I admire you so much for that.

Unfortunately, through high school, my life got busier and I had more summer obligations, and it made it more difficult to get down to New Braunfels, but I know that you always understood. You and Granddad always traveled to Fort Worth for my dance recitals, and that meant so much to me…I don’t think you ever missed one. I remember when you came for my high school graduation and also all the way to Lubbock for my graduation from Texas Tech. I sure am glad you were there! While I was in college, I loved to check the mail! And, I especially loved it when I got letters from you. It always had a little “coke” money in it, as you liked to call it, and that always made me feel extra special and loved. Thanks for all the advice you gave me through the years about finding a husband. You always said that God had a special person just for me…and you were right! And…you were there for our wedding! I think that meant more to me than you could ever know. You looked stunning! This memory I will cherish forever!!!

One thing I know for sure is that God really gave me extra blessing when he picked you to be my Granny. I wish you could have stayed longer. I wish I could still hug you and tell you how much I love you…and I wish that you could be here to meet my children someday…but, I am at peace with this. I am at peace knowing that you are with the Lord, whom you loved so much. I am also at peace knowing that you have no more suffering! So, today we are celebrating your life! You were so many things to so many people, but I was lucky enough to call you Granny!

I love you and I miss you!
Alisha
