Yesterday started out as a normal day until about 6:30 PM. Mark's mom rode the train in from Philly last night and we were scheduled to pick her up at the train station. When we arrived, I got out to hug her...my flip flop caught the side of the curb and I fell directly on my stomach. Needless to say we were all extremely concerned and headed directly to the hospital. When we got there, they hooked me up to the monitors and baby girl's heartbeat was looking great. However, I was having contractions one minute apart which really concerned the Dr. and nurses. They started an IV and got me in for a sonogram. The sonogram showed that she is doing good, her head is down, she is measuring one week ahead and she weighs almost 5.5 lbs! From there, they took me back up to labor and delivery to keep monitoring my contractions. They continued for about another hour getting longer and stronger. They decided it would be best to administer Procardia to stop my contractions. After 3 doses in an hour....my body had enough. I had a severe reaction to the medication. My BP dropped...my pulse went through the roof and I was shaking uncontrollably while I was burning up. It was a scary for a little while. The medication didn't stop the contractions, so the Dr. wanted to keep my overnight for observation. After some tears, they moved us to a regular room for the night, but informed us that no visitors could spend the night. I cried for a good while and then tried to get some rest. I slept for maybe 1 hour while Mark slept in his car. He didn't want to leave me and I definitely did not want him to leave! This morning they hooked me back up to the monitors and thankfully my contractions had stopped and once the Dr. came to check on me we were free to go home. I don't have any restrictions except I'm not allowed to wear flip flops anymore! Now I am just completely exhausted, but so thankful that the baby is OK and that I am feeling better. Now onto the weekly update...
How far along: 34 weeks, 2 days
Size of Baby: 5.5 lbs! Approx. 19-20 inches long
Symptoms: Still occasional contractions...a little round ligament pain and lots of heartburn (the ultrasound showed that she has a lot of hair...perhaps that is the reason for all this heartburn!)
Movement: Lots of rolling and lots of hiccups
Cravings: Nothing really
Milestones: Making it through the last night and day have been the biggest milestone of this week. So thankful everything checked out OK.
NO MORE FLIP FLOPS sweet friend. I hope the next six weeks are safe and healthy. I can't wait to see pictures of your precious family. Take it easy and get as much sleep as you can right now. Once she gets here the adrenaline wears off and the exhaustion will kick in. Believe me, I did not take this advice.... I am thinking about you all! Miss you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a day! I hope that you and Mark get lots of rest today and that you can just look at yesterday as a dry run for 6 weeks from now. Thinking of you all!
