So, after much debate over whether it was necessary, we decided to sign up for a Lamaze class. Mark lovingly gave up an entire day of football to be there with me. Thank goodness for DVR! However, we had to put our phones away so we weren't tempted to check scores or see any facebook posts about any of the games. It turned out to be a worthwhile decision and we both came out of it very glad that we went!
We met some really great people, learned a lot, I got lots of massages and we shared a lot of laughs! Everyone in the class was a first time mom and the majority of the class was military. We also met a fellow Texan who is from Fort Worth and has a dog walking service.
The majority of the class we spent working on relaxation, breathing techniques, and different positions for labor. We also covered the stages of labor, did some role playing of different scenarios, and talked about different options for medical interventions (i.e. pain meds, an epidural or a c-section). We both went into the class with an open mind on childbirth and all of our options. I think we left class feeling very optimistic about natural childbirth, but of course we will be listening to our Dr.'s and following their guidance if there is any type of emergency. Overall, it was a really great experience and whether you are planning on a natural childbirth or not, I would recommend going to a class so you at least know how it all goes down!
Now we are settled in for a long night of college football!
